# For the fourth quarter of 2026 of the “A Day in the Life of” campaign, we had the pleasure of interviewing Sean Huang, Business Development & Automotive BU Director for the Asteelflash plant in Suzhou, China.
Sean Huang is currently the Business Development & Automotive BU Director at Asteelflash Suzhou.
He's been working in the EMS industry for 24 years and has been with Asteelflash since 2004. Throughout this journey, Sean gained extensive experience across multiple business functions and had the opportunity to grow alongside the company.
Sean started his career at Asteelflash Suzhou shortly after joining the company in 2004. Over the years, he had the possibility to work in several key functions, which gave him comprehensive understanding of the EMS industry and the business operations.
His first position was a Buyer, where he was responsible for material sourcing and supplier management. Then, he moved into a Material Planner role, focusing on production planning, demand management, and ensuring on-time material availability to support customer deliveries. Later, Sean advanced to the role of Program Manager, leading cross- functional teams, managing customer programs, supporting new product introductions, and driving project execution.
These diverse experiences helped him develop strong expertise in supply chain management, manufacturing operations, customer relationship management, and business strategy. Today, he serves as the Business Development & Automotive Business Unit Director, where he combines both commercial and operational perspectives to support success and business growth.
In Sean's current position at Asteelflash Suzhou, his role is to drive business growth while ensuring the overall success of the automotive customers and programs.
From a business development perspective, he is responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships, leading commercial discussions, and coordinating quotation activities to secure new business. Sean works closely with customers to understand their requirements and support them throughout the product lifecycle.
From a business unit management perspective, Sean oversees the performance of the automotive business, ensuring alignment between customer expectations and operational execution. This includes coordinating cross-functional teams across sales, project management, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and engineering to achieve targets in delivery, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.
A key part of his role is building long-term partnerships with customers, supporting their growth strategies, and ensuring Asteelflash remains a reliable and competitive EMS partner. With the background in procurement, planning, project management, and business development, Sean is able to bridge both operational and commercial perspectives to drive successful outcomes for the customers and the company.
As the Business Development & Automotive Business Unit Director, no two days are exactly the same, but a typical day usually starts with reviewing key business and operational metrics, such as customer demand, shipment status, production performance, and any open supply chain or quality issues.
A significant part of Sean's day is spent interacting with customers, discussing ongoing projects, new business opportunities, commercial topics, and strategic plans. He works closely with the customers to understand their requirements and ensure they are meeting their expectations in terms of quality, delivery, cost, and service.
Internally, he coordinates with cross-functional teams including project management, supply chain, engineering, quality and manufacturing. Together, they review project progress, resolve challenges, support new product introductions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Sean is also involved in business development activities such as leading quotation reviews, negotiating commercial agreements, identifying growth opportunities, and developing long-term customer relationships. As part of the automotive business leadership team, his focus is on ensuring sustainable growth while maintaining operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Overall, his role is about balancing customer needs, business objectives, and operational execution to ensure both the customers and Asteelflash succeed.
What motivates Sean each morning is the chance to create meaningful value for both his customers and Asteelflash. He enjoys partnering with them, understanding their challenges, and supporting their business goals through his manufacturing and supply chain expertise.
Another strong motivation is working with people. He has the privilege of growing within Asteelflash over the past 22 years, and he enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams, supporting their development, and achieving results together. Seeing a team successfully overcome challenges and deliver for the customers is very rewarding.
"I am also motivated by continuous improvement and business growth. Every day brings new opportunities, whether it is winning new business, launching a new project, improving operational performance, or strengthening customer relationships. The dynamic nature of the EMS industry keeps the job both challenging and interesting."- Sean says.
Ultimately, what drives him is the combination of customer success, team achievement, and long-term business growth. Knowing that his work contributes to all three gives him energy and motivation every day.
"What I enjoy most in my role is working with customers and helping grow the business. I like building long-term partnerships, identifying new opportunities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve challenges and deliver successful results. Seeing both our customers and our company succeed is the most rewarding part of my job." Director exclaimed.
The biggest challenges in his role are navigating global supply chain changes and maintaining competitiveness in a highly dynamic market. Trade tariffs affecting exports from China to the U.S. have driven many customers to evaluate production transfers to other countries, which requires significant coordination across multiple functions. At the same time, the domestic market in China is highly price-competitive, putting pressure on both costs and margins. Sean's role is to help customers and Asteelflash adapt to these challenges while ensuring quality, continuity of supply, and sustainable business growth.
One experience that truly marked his career at Asteelflash was navigating the supply chain challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an automotive business leader, he was responsible for ensuring uninterrupted deliveries to the customers despite severe material shortages, supplier shutdowns, and logistics disruptions.
There were moments when critical components were at risk of not arriving on time, which could have stopped the customers' production lines. The team worked around the clock with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to identify alternative solutions, secure materials, adjust production schedules, and maintain deliveries.
Thanks to the outstanding collaboration and commitment of the entire team, they successfully supported the customers without major disruptions. The experience was stressful, but it also demonstrated the resilience, flexibility, and teamwork that define Asteelflash.
What I remember most is not the challenge itself, but how people from different functions came together to solve problems and support customers. That experience strengthened Sean's belief that strong teamwork and customer focus are the keys to long-term success.
